The Geisha facial

Have you ever heard of Geisha? Geisha (or geiko in Kyoto dialect) are Japanese professional female entertainers who attend guests during meals, banquets and other occasions. They are trained in various traditional Japanese arts, such as dance, music and the art of communication.

Well, just a little peek into the Geisha's world. This entry is not about Geisha, but it's related to a beauty treatment practised by traditional Geishas during the 17th century- uguisu no fun or nightingale facial. They applied nightingale droppings on their face to heal their damaged skin due to the heavy lead-based make-up they wore. Could you imagine smearing your face with a bird's poo? Euwww.

Now, the Geisha facial is popular in the West since the poo is proven to have good impacts on skin. It helps as an anti-ageing facial treatment and is said to effectively cleanse the skin, as well as reduce brown marks on skin. But...wait, as strange as it sounds, the nightingale facial treatment comes with expensive price tag. £180 for a 90-minute session, well, convert it to MYR, and tada! - MYR 950.80. To have an effective nightingale facial, do it once every month. (Like seriously?) *sigh*

Well, I choose this Geisha facial to be part of painful beauty treatment because in my opinion, to bear with something as grim, smelly and gross as a bird's droppings being applied on your skin just to look beautiful is sort of painful too!
